Castilla y Leon

Castilla y Leon is the largest region in Spain. It is known for its vast expanse of plains and its many castles

Valladolid is the capital of the region and although it has now become quite industrialised it has one of the most important sculpture museums in Spain and some of the best architecture.

Salamanca is also a great architectural city and is home to one of the oldest universities in Europe, which was founded in the 13th Century as well as having two cathedrals.

Castilla y Leon is a beautiful rural region of Spain near to the Portuguese border and not far from the capital of Spain, Madrid. Look at our selection of rural rentals in Castilla y Leon.

Galicia

The area of Galicia “Green Spain” is in the far north west of the country. It is known as the ‘land of a thousand rivers’ and is the greenest region in Spain.

Santiago de Compostela is the capital of Galicia and its’ main tourist attraction. The supposed tomb of St James the Apostle is to be found here in this beautiful city.

Many Spaniards are now visiting this area to get away from the heat of the south in the summer and to spend a peaceful holiday in sheltered coves with lovely beaches and to visit some of the rural areas where time seems to have almost stood still.

Vigo is the most populated city in Galicia and has the most important fishing port in all of Spain.

Asturias

The area of Asturias is found between Galicia and Cantabria. The coastline, the Costa Verde, is a popular attraction and has many sandy coves and numerous fishing villages. It is a very picturesque region. Inland there are forests and mountains and nature reserves with rare species of flora and fauna.

Oviedo (the region’s capital) is a lively university city and culturally well worth a visit.

Murray Head captured Bangkok perfectly in his short song. He sings about the sights, sounds and smells of the largest city in Thailand. He also warns men to be aware of the ladies of the third gender.

If you have never been to Bangkok, you will definitely be humbled. As soon as you walk out of the baggage claim area at Suvarnabhumi you will be overwhelmed by the maddening crowd waiting outside the door.

A sea of yellow shirts (in honor of the King) will be blocking your way. Some will have signs with names on them trying to find a wayward traveler. Others will be armed with clipboards touting taxis at ridiculously high prices.

Fighting through this narrow gauntlet is even more difficult with two suitcases and a backpack. The taxi mafia will not take “No” for an answer – even if you say it ten times in 5 different languages.

They will persist and follow you, block your way, and annoy you so much that you will want to punch them. But, you relax and realize where you are and why you are there.

You are in Bangkok. It is the City of Angels in the Land of Smiles. You know from your research that a smile and a cool heart will go far in this beautiful country. So, you smile and make your way to the escalator and find yourself on the first floor.

You head outside and find the legal taxi line-up and make your way to the makeshift tables and tell the cute girl where your hotel is. The fee for getting a legal taxi is all of 50 Baht – which is about $1.50 USD.

As an alternative to your usual way of spending your holidays, why not consider boating, if you haven’t already? These type of vacations are different from anything you have done before. They are intimate and relaxing. Besides, if you are aboard a big comfortable yacht, you can find a dozen of things to do. Even if you have just a small boat, the kids will definitely enjoy the ride, and you will feel so much more relaxed, basking in the sun from your fold-up chair.

Top destinations in the U.S.A.

Monterey Bay

This wonderful location for boating is situated between the city of Santa Cruz and the Monterey Peninsula. Boaters from around the world come here for a relaxing experience never to be forgotten. Sandy beaches, rocky shores and amazing seascapes are the main points of interest here. Stillwater, located south of Monterey Bay, is the starting point for many a boaters. Here you can hike on the coastline and golf at Pebble Beach. However, the weather is unreliable and, as many will tell you, while setting sail the weather can change out of nowhere.

Morro Bay, CA

Have you ever been to Hearst Castle? Maybe it’s time to go. This great building was built between 1919 and 1947, by William Hearst, one of the richest publish owners. The Hearst Castle represents one of the most important historical monuments in Central California, and while boating along the Central Coast, is a wonderful place to visit. Rocky cliffs end the rough shoreline abruptly, beaches so with sand so black you could mistake it for dirt and the Pacific Coast Mountain’s peaks that rise from the water like skyscrapers from a city is something worth seeing at least once in a life time.

A visit to Ronda, Malaga and Nerja, Spain

Malaga

Malaga is the capital city of the Costa del Sol, it is also one of the provinces of Andalusia, a port city and also the location for the international airport which is the largest airport in Spain.

The population of Malaga and the surrounding area is estimated at over 1,000,000 and this number swells in the summer with the influx of visitors. Malaga is surrounded by mountains and there are two rivers, the Guadalhorce and the Guadalmedina which flow past the city into the Mediterranean.

Malaga has a wealth of history going back over 3,000 years. It was founded by the Phoenicians and named ‘Malaka’, meaning salt, probably because of the fish which was salted by the harbour. In the 8th century it was inhabited by the Moors and became an important trading city. In more recent times, tourism has naturally boosted the economy.

Malaga is a very popular tourist destination, made more so in recent years, because of the number of cheap charter flights which now operate in and out of the international airport. But it is also from here that people can reach a large part of Andalucia and may choose to stay in the famous ‘white villages’ or the historic cities of Sevilla or Granada.
